The daily activity of a Clubhouse is organised around a structured system known as the work-ordered day. The work-ordered day is an eight-hour period, typically Monday through Friday, which parallels the typical business hours of the working community.
Members and staff work side by side, as colleagues to perform the work that is important to their community. All of the work in the Clubhouse is for the Clubhouse and not for any outside agency or business. There are no clinical therapies or treatment-oriented programs in the Clubhouse. Members voluntarily participate as they feel ready and according to their individual interests.
At Stepping Stone, we have three units that make up our Work Ordered Day:
EECAT unit
The ECAT unit is the administrative hub of the Clubhouse. In this unit members and staff work together to complete the tasks required to manage the Clubhouse. Tasks in this unit mirror a typical office and are often computer based. By completing real world tasks members can learn valuable real world administrative and computer based skills. This can range from learning to write an email to more complex tasks such as using our database to fulfil our funding obligations. We also work together to help members to identify and pursue employment or education options, by assisting with: job search, resume preparation, job applications, interview preparation, transportation, education support, assignment/exam support, liaising with Centrelink and other government/non-government organisations with and on behalf of our members.
Hospitality unit
The Hospitality unit is a fun, vibrant and welcoming unit. Our unit includes a huge industrial kitchen and a fully functioning cafe. Responsibilities of our unit are to provide a healthy lunch for Clubhouse members every day. We believe in a healthy active lifestyle and try to incorporate it into everything we do! Weekly menu planning, shopping, budgeting, food preparation, serving, cleaning, food safety, food hygiene, making cafe-style teas and coffees, freshly squeezed juice, fresh smoothies, baking and creating scrumptious snacks, providing an all-day menu, cash register operation, ledger balancing and customer service experience are some of the things we do. Opportunities are endless in the Hospitality unit. If it is your birthday, our members will even create a spectacular cake or fruit platter, just for you!
Reception and Media (RAM) unit
When you come to Stepping Stone the first unit you see will be the Ram unit. That is because the Ram unit is located at Reception. Part of Ram’s role is to greet visitors as they arrive and provide a welcoming face to everyone who visits Stepping Stone. The Ram unit is also responsible for all things media. The media environment is a constantly changing space. We are always looking for members who are interested in making videos, developing our website, managing Facebook or helping us to shape our online presence.
